Dashboard Widgets

Add widgets to your project dashboard, including breakdowns that count events or add up a numeric property.

Your project dashboard lives under Analytics → Dashboard. Choose Add Widget to add a chart, then pick one of three kinds:

  • Event by Property breaks one event down by a property, such as signups by country or seats by plan.
  • Multi-Step Funnel shows how many users move through a sequence of events. See Funnels.
  • Retention Chart shows how many users come back over time. See Retention.

Every widget follows the date range and filters at the top of the dashboard.

Event by Property

Pick the Event to break down, then the Property to group it by. The list covers the properties Logspot records on every event, such as Location Country, Browser, and Referrer. Choose Custom to group by one of your own event properties instead, and type its key.

Measure decides what each row shows:

  • Count of Events shows how many times the event fired for each value. This is the default.
  • Sum of a Property adds up a numeric property for each value, such as total seats by plan or total order size by country.

Sum a Property

Say your app sends an event each time a customer buys seats:

Logspot.track({
  event: 'Seats Purchased',
  metadata: { plan: 'team', seats: 5 },
});

To see how many seats each plan has sold, add an Event by Property widget with:

  • Event set to Seats Purchased
  • Property set to Custom, with the key plan
  • Measure set to Sum of a Property
  • Property to Sum set to seats

The widget lists each plan with its total, largest first.

Property to Sum lists the properties your project's events send. A property you only started sending recently may not be listed yet. Choose Use a Property Not Listed and type the key exactly as your events send it.

Which Values Count

Only numbers are added up, including decimals and negative numbers. A value sent as text, such as "5", is skipped, and so is an event that does not carry the property at all. The caption under the widget names the property being summed and how many events were skipped, so a tracking call that sends the wrong type shows up there.

Sums are not available when Property is Acquisition Channel or Entry Url, because Logspot works those out per session rather than storing them on each event.

A sum adds plain numbers and knows nothing about currency. To total payments, use Revenue, which keeps each currency separate.

From the API or an AI Assistant

The Aggregate events by property endpoint takes sum_metadata_field to return the same sums. Each row then carries total (the sum), summed (how many events had a number to add), and count (all events in the group).

If you have connected an AI assistant, its aggregate_by_property tool takes the same option, so you can ask questions like "How many seats did each plan buy last month?"
